Chestnut Farms Bourbon doesn’t have a website, doesn’t have a social presence and doesn’t do much in the way of advertising. It’s almost like the Clear Spring Distilling Company that makes it doesn’t actually exist; which they kinda don’t. Doing a bit of digging I discovered that they also “make” the Costco brand bourbon. A bit more digging and it turns out that Clear Spring is owned by Sazerac.

A bit further digging and we find that Chestnut Farms Bourbon is made at the Barton 1792 distillery; Sazerac’s other bourbon distillery – the one that isn’t Buffalo Trace – which is also where Trader Joe’s gets their bourbon from. Mystery solved, this is a premium looking bottle of Barton 1792.

Chestnut Farms Bourbon Review

EYE
Amber

NOSE
Caramel corn, toffee, nutmeg, oak and a bit of fruit and nuts. The aroma isn’t very complex. It’s not bad, but it smells young and is missing any sense of “heaviness” to it.

PALATE
Caramel, dark fruit, nutmeg, vanilla and oak play out with a bit of cocoa and nuts. Like the aroma it isn’t powerful, but it’s pleasant.

FINISH
Medium fade of corn, caramel, cinnamon and oak.

BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Ok balance, medium body and a light soft feel.

OVERALL
Chestnut Farms Bourbon isn’t very complex, but it’s nice. It’s a solid sippable whiskey that’s a decent representation of what comes out of the Barton 1792 distillery. It’s by no means something that I’m going to go out of my way to get, but if someone offered a glass I’d be more than happy to take a pour. It’s simple and straightforward, but well put together and while it’s not “interesting” it’s a decent dram.
