Painted Bird

Not Without My Bitters

I recently headed back to Miro for a closer look at the Whiskey Library. While the upstairs restaurant has a pretty bar, all the action is downstairs. There’s ample room at the bar or if you have a group, check out the Whiskey Library to cozy up to substantial whiskey list.

We had cocktails before going into the Library. My favorite drink of the night was the Not Without My Bitters from the Fall list. It’s both bourbon and apple brandy with a touch of honey and lemon. The Angostura bitters smooths out any rough edges but there really aren’t any. It’s definitely a drink you could have while snacking on cheese and charcuterie.

Tokyo Old Fashioned

Or if you’re in a more straightforward mood, try the Tokyo Old Fashioned. Made with Toki Japanese whisky, the flavor profile is enhanced with the Giffard banana liqueur.

Painted Bird

Painted Bird

I love Jungle Birds, the blackstrap rum and Campari tiki drink. Miro riffs on it by infusing the rum with guajillo chile. I like that the bar works with the kitchen on creating drinks.

Sonny Corleone

Sonny Corleone

Probably one of the best names for a drink is the Sonny Corleone. Fans of the movie, The Godfather, will enjoy this nod to the fictional mobster.

Armorik Classic Single Malt

Armorik Classic Single Malt

In the Whiskey Library at Miro, I tried the French whisky, Armorik. We had the Classic Single Malt.

Some whiskies I was eying:

  • Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year (for those times you take whiskey novices who want to impress)
  • Blackadder Drop of the Irish Cask Strength
  • Amrut Intermediate Sherry Cask
  • Kavalan Soloist Vinho Barrique Single Cask
  • Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016
  • Karuizawa 13 Year, 1999

The Library is full of wonderful things and it would take a very long time to try it all. I like that you can buy a bottle to keep in one of their special display cases or you can just go in for a dram.
