Beelman’s Pub is now open in Downtown Los Angeles. Housed in a former coffee shop that seemed cavernous before, the pub is now very cozy with outdoor seating  and a huge beautiful bar.  The beverage program is one of the many offspring of Proprietors LLC and Beelman’s Pub is part of the Acme Group which also owns the King Eddy, The Library Bar (DTLA), Spring Street Bar and Sixth Street Tavern.

Pop & Lock

Pop & Lock

The draft drink Pop & Lock was originally called the House of Jealous Lovers at Beelman’s. By either name, it’s very refreshing and goes very well with the pub food as it helps cut what little grease there is in the burger or fish and chips.

Pop & Lock – apple brandy, St. Germain, Pineau de Charentes, verjus blanc, seltzer

chicken liver mousse

Of course we had to try the chicken liver mousse which was served in a crock. I found it fresh and didn’t taste mineral-y which can sometimes happen with chicken liver.

beet salad

I was quite excited by the beet salad. It’s one of the few veg sides at Beelman’s. I had come in during the soft open and ate a couple of veggie sides. I liked the mushrooms and green beans but they are not on offer on the current menu.

fish and chips

Along with the pub burger with fried which we turned into gravy fries, the fish and chips is one of the more popular entrees. I preferred the burger which was juicy over the fish and chips. While the fish was great, I wanted bigger pieces. But perhaps bigger isn’t always better. You might find scary things (haha!) like fish skin in your fish and chips.

Accidental Guru

Accidental Guru

There’s a beer cocktail on the menu called Accidental Guru. The Blanche de Bruxelles wheat beer gives the Irish whiskey, peach, ginger and lime drink a nice fizz.

Accidental Guru – Irish whiskey, creme de peche, ginger, lime, Blanche de Bruxelles

I also tried the Bombardier (blended Scotch whisky, China China Amer, lemon, brown sugar, Castillian bitters) which should be your go to if you like brown, bitter, stirred whiskey drinks.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Beelman’s!
