Coco Nutcase

I was so excited when Broken Shaker opened in Downtown Los Angeles. I’ve been to the one in Miami a few times and was so close to visiting the one in Chicago (it was Lallapalooza weekend and there was a huge wait to get in).

The one in DTLA is a really pretty, manicured version of the wild jungle surrounding the pool in Miami. I like both; the one in LA appeals to senses just as much as the original. Now I’m a little bit bummed I never saw the Chicago one. How do they get all that lushness inside a bar when this is really a bar all about being poolside? And what’s even better about the LA one is it’s on a rooftop. That’s right, it’s on top of the Freehand Hotel.

I tried one drink, the Coco Nutcase. Yes, this is the perfect by-the-pool, outdoor patio drink. It’s a vacation in a glass. Or plastic tumbler in this case.

Coco Nutcase – Tequila Cabeza, Rhum Clement Mahina Coco, kaffir lime, agave, Shaker coconut lime sea salt

Posts coming up next at the Freehand… the hotel restaurant, The Exchange and the lobby bar, Rudolph’s Bar and Tea! It’s like a cool cocktail bar hop all in one building.
