Mischief Maria

Mischief Maria

Prank Bar is now open in Downtown Los Angeles. Located in the South Park district of DTLA, its closest neighbors include Barcito, Broken Spanish and the nearby beer hall, Mikkeller. This is clearly a bar crawl waiting to happen.

Prank distinguishes itself as a bar with healthy eats (lots of vegan options) as well as drinks made with terpenes (oils extracted from cannabis). Certain terpenes are believed to be beneficial.

First, it must be emphasized terpenes don’t get you high. Having a drink like the Mischief Maria which has limonene cannabis terpene isn’t going to turn you into a stoner. What it is though is delicious. It’s a easy drinkin’ tipple that will go well with your food. It was definitely a garden in a glass with lots of veggies like heirloom tomatoes and carrots.

Mischief Maria – Altos reposado tequila, heirloom tomato, carrot, cilantro, limonene cannabis terpene, citrus, jalepeno beet foam, dried scorpion tomato garnish

vegan nachos

vegan nachos

As mentioned there are several vegan options including the nachos made. As someone who likes eating vegetarian or vegan as cuisines, it’s a nice change. I didn’t miss the cheese or sour cream. There were creamy bean and nut cheese along with everyone’s favorite guacamole for dipping.

The Gamekeeper

The Gamekeeper

Another drink with terpenes is the Gamekeeper. The pinene cannabis terpene adds just a slight edge to an otherwise standard Manhattan variation. The rye cocktail also features Cardamaro, an amaro made with cardoons. See that bit of basil? It’s wrapped around a piece of peppermint bark chocolate which is made with CBD. CBDs is also thought to be beneficial to your health and again, not the stuff that makes you high (that’s THC).

The Gamekeeper – Wild Turkey rye whiskey, pinene cannabis terpene, Cardamaro, peppermint bark chocolate

hot wings

spicy wings

I was a little surprised the spicy wings weren’t served with the wings but these were juicy enough on their own. They’re spicy but it’s a reasonable heat. If you do need a sauce, Prank will happily provide one for you.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust

It’s all the rage now to make sour cocktails with aquafaba (the liquid from canned garbanzo beans) instead of egg whites. It’s great since you don’t get that wet dog smell from some drinks made with egg whites. This gin drink was as lovely as it looks.

Wanderlust – Junipero gin, green tea, honey, aquafaba, lemon, bitters, flowers

steak and fish tacos

steak and fish tacos

Feeling like you need a bit more to snack on? The tacos at Prank are a nice bite. I liked both the steak and the fish tacos.

Anti-inflamatory

Anti-inflammatory

Prank has a list of non-alcoholic drinks including this Anti-inflammatory which contains limonene cannabis terpene. This is great for when you want to give your liver a rest and boost your immune system.

Anti-inflammatory – pineapple, lemon, ginger, agave, limonene cannabis terpene, cayenne, bitters

kobe burger with veganaise

kobe burger with veganaise

I found it interesting Prank has a kobe beef burger with veganaise spread. I suppose veganaise is healthier? Well, since I avoid mayonnaise, this is a good alternative. The burger was delicious.

Energy

Energy

Also on the non=alcoholic list is the Energy. It’s the perfect little boost made with matcha (stone ground green tea leaves) and their house coconut almond milk. Later I tasted their housemade kombucha and I am digging what they’re doing at Prank. It’s a modern day hippie love fest.

Energy – matcha, house coconut almond milk, wild flower honey

carrot cupcake

carrot cupcake

I’m not much of a fan of carrots so I passed the carrot cupcake over to my friend. I can see though carrot cake lovers will enjoy this one with all the different textures. Prank, please call me when you make zucchini or banana nut bread. I’m so in for those baked goods.

Prank is open for both lunch and dinner. They have live music on weekends and the best part of the bar is you can enter every which way. When the glass windows/ doors are open, you can just walk up to the bar. It’s nice for when you want to look out to see who’s coming and going. Prank is only a couple blocks from Staples Center so it’s a nice alternative to grab a drink and snacks before heading to a game or concert.
