Uneventful Tuesday night? Well then it’s time to get down and dirty with some moonshine.

And by moonshine, we mean maybe-only-just-kind-of moonshine. Since the real thing is still illegal, we have the second best option. BUT it’s easier, faster, and made to taste like apple pie. What could possible be better than that?

But before we get carried away with ourselves, let’s take a moment to acknowledge authentic moonshine. Right about now, you’re probably trying to create some kind of definition for moonshine in your head. And it probably goes like this: “Oh, that’s the stuff that southern hicks make in their sheds and drink between milking the cows and feeding the chickens.” Weeellllll, that may have been how it started, but now it’s something much different. Because producing alcohol in your home with plans to drink it but without paying excise tax is illegal, more and more enthusiasts are taking their operations mainstream. So, if you decide that after trying your hand at our maybe-only-just-kind-of moonshine, you still want more, you can see that the real deal has to offer.

So, long story short, instead of wasting time fermenting this and distilling that, you’ll just need….

1 750ml bottle of 190 proof Everclear
About 1 (or maybe 2) cup of captain morgan spiced rum
1 gallon apple cider
1 quart apple juice
3 cups of brown sugar
1 cup of white sugar
10 cinnamon sticks
1 large stock pot
6  quart-sized Mason Jars

Throw (no, not literally) the apple cider, apple juice, and cinnamon sticks into a large pot and bring it to a simmer before adding the sugars. Stir the mixture until the sugar has dissolved (5-10 mins) and then turn off the heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Wait a couple of hours for the mixture to fully cool before adding the everclear and rum.

Divide the moonshine into jars, add cinnamon sticks, and rejoice in your moonshinyness.
