Due in no small part to the efforts of Bobby Heugel, Houston, Texas, has its agave game on lock. Tomorrow night, Heugel’s Pastry War will take over the bar of Cuchara Restaurant for a special evening in which they’ll welcome Oaxacan distillers Mezcal Vago. While this partnership on its own sounds pretty awesome, the cherry on top is the presence of maestro mezcalero Aquilino García López, who, presumably, doesn’t get to spend a ton of time making the rounds in bars and restaurants in the US. Along with García López comes his son-in-law and Vago co-founder Judah Kuper, who knows a thing or two about the spirit himself. Drink of their knowledge (and their very, very fine mezcal) at this rare event tomorrow at Cuchara in Houston.
