Almost True

Welcome to summer! Roger Room launched a new summer drinks menu earlier this summer. And the most quaffable tipple has to be the Almost True. It’s a long drink on crushed ice. If you’re not careful, you’ll find yourself ordering a couple of those and wishing for a cabana next to an inviting pool because that’s what drinking the Almost True is like.

Almost True – 50 Bleu vodka, Mandarine Napoleon liqueur, Luxardo maraschino, orange juice, Mixwell Mojave grapefruit soda, cayenne, Peychaud’s bitters

Alphabet Street

I found myself mulling over the Alphabet Street. It’s just as refreshing but has a few levels of flavor you want to delve into. The tequila and the Creme Yvette worked well together and I loved the fresh huckleberries.

Le Croupier

While there’s not a whiskey drink on the summer menu, brown spirits fans can enjoy Le Croupier. Figs and cognac go really well together and I liked the zingy ginger as well.

Paradise Lost, The Mainstay

The last two drinks we tried were the Paradise Lost and The Mainstay. Paradise Lost is mezcal based using El Silencio Espadin. Although it has a heavy hitter amaro (Cynar) in it, the pineapple juice gives it a juicy spin that’s perfect for the 90+ degree weather we’re having.

The Mainstay is named after one of the categories Roger Room was nominated for in the recent Time Out Bar Awards. I recently participated in the awards as a judge and was happy to see a bar so deserving of a nomination. The drink is quite interesting using both rum and aquavit. The summery take on this one is the Asian pear.
