quarter miler corona cocktail

“I live my life a quarter mile at a time.” Me too buddy, me too. Confession. No, that’s not the right word. Truism. The “Fast and Furious” movies are good, silly fun. Alice and I enjoy the crap out of them. We shed a tear when The Bro (Paul Walker, but of course) had his untimely demise and poured one out for our lost homie. When Vin Diesel taught us in the first movie, “You can have any brew you want, as long as it’s a Corona,” we knew exactly what we had to do: make a cocktail to celebrate “Furious 7″ using Corona. This one is for you Bro! And Vin! And all you crazy cats! The Quarter Miler.

That’s right, the Quarter Miler. See what we did there?

I’ll let that majesty sink in for a little while.

It done sinking?

I knew we didn’t want to go the easy route and just go with a Beer-rita (or Coron-rita, or whatever they’re calling those things these days; if you want a Margarita, just have a Margarita).

Starting with Corona, I thought, “OK, this usually has lime. We’re going to need some citrus. What else has citrus? What could Dom approve of?”

The choice was clear: the Whisky Sour — well, the Whisky Sour, modified and tweaked. Then turn it into a Collins by adding fizz, but instead of club soda fizz, we get that fizz from a Corona! The Bro wouldn’t have it any other way.

That’s just what we did, starting with our whisky (fine, technically we went bourbon) base, adding a splash of sweet, some lemon, some lime and finished off with beer.

How does it taste? Honestly, we were both shocked with how refreshing it is. Beyond just refreshing, it’s alarmingly easy to drink a few too many of these. The lightness of the Corona compliments the earthiness of the whisky, while the lemon and lime tie them all together in a fast and furious flavor sensation (sorry, I couldn’t help myself).

Honestly, there’s no better way to celebrate the pure silly fun of “Fast and Furious,” or, specifically, “Furious 7″ than with a Quarter Miler, except maybe a straight Corona. Because, you can have any brew…well, you know.

Now, onto the Quarter Miler!

Recipe type: Drinks

Ingredients
  • 2 oz. whisky (or bourbon, we went bourbon)
  • ¾ oz. lemon juice
  • ¾ oz. lime juice
  • ½ oz. simple syrup (50/50 sugar and water)
  • Corona (or any light beer, but for The Bro, Corona)
  • Glass type: Mason jar (of course)
Instructions
  1. Add whisky, lemon juice, lime juice and simple syrup to your shaker with ice.
  2. Shake.
  3. Pour into your mason jar.
  4. Add extra ice.
  5. Top with Corona.
  6. Pour some out for The Bro.
  7. Garnish with lime wedge.
  8. Watch "The Fast and the Furious."
  9. Or any of them really.
  10. Drink.
  11. Have another.
  12. Definitely do not drive.
  13. Feel free to get a little furious though.

Oh, and if you want to celebrate in a big group watching the movies (as they’re meant to be enjoyed) upscale this. Grab a sixer of Corona and go: 20 oz. whiskey, 7.5 oz. lemon juice, 7.5 oz. lime juice, 5 oz. simple syrup in a pitcher. Stir. Then pour in five Coronas. That extra one? That’s for The Bro. Add ice to your glasses. Pour. Enjoy. Don’t ice your pitcher, that’ll water down the Quarter Miler.

Ride on!
