Same Same Wine Bar

Same Same Wine Bar

Something new has popped up on the corner of Silver Lake Boulevard and Sunset. Though you might miss it at first because there’s still a tiny sign for Rambutan, the Thai restaurant in the corner of the strip mall. It’s actually been revamped into Same Same where you can get fabulous Thai food with a thoughtful wine selection.

fresh spring roll

fresh spring roll

We started with the fresh spring roll which we enjoyed. I think this appetizer would be best for 4. Not that I minded polishing off an entire spring roll on my own. We got the one with meat (prawn and pork) which meant it still retained the soft noodle wrapper. Though I’m sure the crispy veggie option is just as good.

pork belly kapow

We were warned the pork belly kapow would be spicy and indeed it was. It’s a good thing we were eating this dish with rice to help tame the fiery pork. I loved how simple and delicious this was. I would eat this again and just be prepared to sweat it all out!

jade noodles

jade noodles

I’m a sucker for jade noodles and Same Same’s are very nice. I do put the versions at Sapp and Luv2Eat just a tad ahead as my favorites in LA though. While I liked the pork and the sauce, I wanted a bit more crunch. Maybe add in some crispy pork skin.

beef jerky fried rice

We headed into spicy territory again with the beef jerky fried rice. That sounds like it would be these tough strips of beef but they were actually quite tender.

fried mussels pancake

Although the fried mussels pancake is under the appetizer section, it should really be served last so you get all that beautiful crispy pancake. You might even be tempted to eat it with rice as I did. I can eat this over and over again.

mango and sticky rice

mango and sticky rice

We had tried a variety of wines with our food and everything was paired perfectly. So of course we took the recommendation of getting the mango sticky rice for dessert. The ripe mango goes so well with the slightly sweet rice.

It’s a fun spot and it’s already become a neighborhood gem.
