Drinks of the Rich and Famous

After a long week of work, people all over the US visit their local watering holes for a few “happy hour” drinks. Ever wonder what your favorite celebrity likes to drink in his or her off hours? How about the POTUS himself? The rich, famous, and powerful may lead lives far different from the average person, but when it comes to their drink choices they are more like us then one might expect.

Boilermaker

Boilermaker (Charles Bukowski) – The writer of Women and Factotum is not only famous for being a big drinker, but he’s famous for creating one of the most well-known drinking characters of all time: Henry Chinaski. Bukowski himself often enjoyed chasing a shot with a frosty beer.

Bud Light

Bud Light (Barak Obama) – Being the President of the United States requires a lot of tough choices. Obama made it known that he enjoys a Bud Light or two. Who knows if that’s actually the case, but there’s not much more American than a Budweiser.

Gin and Dubonnet

Gin and Dubonnet (Queen Elizabeth) – The Queen of England is fond of this sweet sipper. Her recipe: 2 parts Dubonnet Rouge, 1 part gin, 2 ice cubes, 1 slice lemon.

Jack Daniel’s

Jack Daniel’s (Frank Sinatra) – “Old Blue Eyes”, the leader of the Rat Pack enjoyed a good party just as much as he enjoyed performing. He once said, “I may run for the office of president. Gimme a bottle and a glass and I’ll get America off its ass.” Along with a roll of coins and a pack of smokes, Sinatra was buried with a bottle of Jack by his side.

Lemon Drop Martini

Lemon Drop (Oprah) – Officially known as Oprah’s “Legends Lemon Drop Martini,” he served this cocktail at her Legends Ball. Recipe: 2 oz. vodka, juice of 3 lemons, 2 tbl. sugar, 3 fresh mint leaves. Shake vodka, lemon juice, and sugar, then strain into a sugar-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with mint.

Olive Martini

Martin Miller’s Gin (Jimmy Fallon) – Who ever said gin isn’t inspiring? Jimmy Fallon orders Martin Miller’s by the case when he’s working to ensure that he drinks what he likes. Martini anyone?

Mojito

Mojito (Ernest Hemingway) – It’s no secret that Hemingway enjoyed his daiquiris – we even ask for the Hemingway daiquiri by name. Hemingway liked to drink; he is, in fact, one of the most famous drinkers in literary history and a diabetic to boot. He spent many years in Key West and spent many nights (and days) imbibing mojitos, as well as those famous daiquiris.

Old Fashioned

Old Fashioned (George Lucas) – The classic cocktail consisting of whiskey, simple syrup, angostura bitters and maraschino cherries is Star Wars creator George Lucas’ favorite drink. Maybe he had a few too many of them when he thought up Jar Jar Binks.

Scotch

Scotch (Humphrey Bogart) – Bogey liked a drink after a long day on set. At one point in his career, he changed up his drink of choice. He’s famously quoted as saying, “I never should have switched from scotch to martinis.”

White Russian

White Russian (Jeffrey Lebowksi) – He may not be a real person, but The Dude (Jeff Lebowski) and his drink preferences abide. Jeff Bridges played Lebowski in the Coen Brothers’ film The Big Lebowski, imbibing upwards of nineteen White Russians during the 117 minute long movie.
