Little Miss Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine

Taste on Melrose has a wonderful patio out back. I never knew this until I recently revisited. I had always ate out front so I had no idea there’s a beautiful bar out back. And bonus, they serve a great happy hour.

I had one of the new signature cocktails, the Little Miss Sunshine. I love anything with Green Chartreuse and gin is its spirit (pun intended) animal. They’re great friends. I asked what the sunshine syrup was and a few things were shown to me but I think I’ll leave it as a secret and let you discover its sunny secret.

shishito peppers

blistered shishito peppers

I can always snack on shishito peppers and Taste’s version was great. I love how well-cooked these were. They were so tender and had a lovely sweet soy sauce that actually wasn’t too sweet.

ahi tuna poke

ahi tuna poke

Poke is very trendy right now but Taste’s version is very satisfying. The little bit of dill is very different. I liked the lotus root chips as well. This wasn’t on the happy hour menu but I’m glad we got it anyway.

martini

martini

Sometimes when you’re in a classy joint, you order a gin martini to go with your happy hour meal. I felt the glory days of Old Hollywood washing over me as I sipped on this classic. And at $8 during happy hour, this is a steal. Next time I might try an Aperol Spritz or the pomegranate basil sangria, both of which are also under the happy hour menu.

meatballs

mini Kobe meatballs

My friend wanted to try the mini Kobe meatballs. We loved the papaya BBQ sauce and roasted corn salsa. These were quite filling. And I loved that they were under the $6 happy hour plates.

I’ll gladly go back to Taste anytime for happy hour but it might be time to go back for dinner and/or brunch!
