An East Coast / West Coast Whisky Review of Laphroaig 2018 Cairdeas Fino Cask Finish
Contributed by on Aug 16, 2019
Two readers love this post.
While Limpd was having some fun in the sun with La Famiglia in Aruba, The West Coast Office (The WCO) and Yours Truly did some experimenting with technology one fateful Friday night.
The goal:
Figure out a way to record a video review of the same whisky with one person on the Eastern Seaboard and the other person on the West Coast.
After a bit of tinkering with various iPhone apps (Facetime, Google Hangouts, etc), we concluded that Skype was the best way to go, so what you’ll see in today’s video is what you get when you record a video chat via Skype on an iPhone XS (well, two iPhones to be exact).
The whisky we reviewed is the Laphroaig 2018 Cairdeas Fino Cask Finish. Here’s what distiller.com had to say about it:
This bottling was released on the 2018 Fèis Ìle Open Day for Laphroaig. Cairdeas means “friendship” in Gaelic and if you weren’t there to grab a bottle, this release is currently available to Friends of Laphroaig members (excluding the US) with a wide release expected beginning August 2018. The single malt matured in Warehouse 8 and 10 and was first placed in first-fill bourbon casks before finishing its maturation in Fino sherry casks. Bottled at 51.8% ABV.
Just so you know, The WCO and I are quite the Peat Monsters and Laphroaig Fanboys, so let’s just say that we went in to this tasting with extra-rosy, rose-colored glasses.
