Blood Orange and Rye Whiskey Cocktail
When blood oranges are in season, we love making cocktails that feature this beautiful citrus fruit. This cocktail has a wonderful luscious ruby sweetness from the freshly squeezed blood orange juice, combined with Campari and the earthy dry spice of Rye whiskey. Campari, along with a few dashes of orange bitters, really gives this cocktail a lot of depth and a satisfying complexity.
Acidity levels can make or break a cocktail recipe so we adjust the lemon juice according to how ripe our blood oranges are. The riper the blood orange, the less acidic they taste so we compensate by adding a little more lemon juice. It helps to make a “test” cocktail or two before you serve them to someone else so that you are sure to get it just right. Recipe below.
