Cocktail Recipe – The Oaxacan Old Fashioned

Six readers love this post.
If you’re a regular reader, then you’ll immediately recognize this cocktail, which was featured in our review of El Guapo Bitters and Syrups. It’s called The Oaxacan Old Fashioned and it was inspired by a cocktail with the same name that we sampled at a local bar called Central Taco & Tequila. The Central Taco version was made with Altos Reposado Tequila, Wahaka Espadin Mezcal, Agave, Old Fashioned Bitters, and Chocolate Bitters.
While our version didn’t use the EXACT same ingredients, it was equally delicious, and when a drink is this delicious, you have to share it with your friends. We are friends, right?
If all of this sounds appealing to you, here’s the recipe so that you can join in our fun:
The Oaxacan Old Fashioned
- 1 oz Mezcal (we used Del Maguay Pechuga)
- 1 oz Reposado Tequila (we used Casamigos)
- .5 oz of Turbinado or Demerara Simple Syrup
- 4 dashes of El Guapo Spiced Cocoa Tea Bitters
- 2 dashes of Angostura Orange Bitters
- Orange Peel
- 1 large ice cube
Method: Pour all ingredients into an Old Fashioned glass. Stir with ice. Garnish with an orange peel.
And here’s a little video that we pulled together using footage from our El Guapo review where we gave you our first impressions of this delightfully intoxicating libation:
