elote at Chino Chinatown

We were exploring all parts of Dallas and decided to head over to Trinity Groves. We ended up at Chino Chinatown which fuses both Latin and Chinese food into one interesting mix.

First we had the elote appetizer. It was very good but I did wish for more corn. The tangy sauce was great.

My friend had the duck fat fried rice which came with plump shrimp, sausage and a beautiful fried egg on top. I had a bite and it was indeed rich. It was such a huge portion, there’s no way one person could really finish it. Sadly we didn’t have a fridge in the hotel room so we didn’t take the leftovers.

I had a protein-rich ramen that combined carnitas, Chinese BBQ pork, hardboiled egg and baked tofu over soft noodles. The soup is poured at the table so I think the noodles were just slightly over-cooked when the dish arrived at the table. I did squeeze in some lime and attacked the noodles. Sometimes I think I can just live on noodles alone but then I remember how much I love everything else.

I really liked the egg which reminded me of a Chinese tea egg. The Chinese BBQ pork was great too. I normally don’t like it because I find Chinese BBQ pork too dry and sweet. However Chino Chinatown’s version was so meaty and tasty.

Four Corners Brewing Company

We walked across the street to the Four Corners Brewing Company for a beer. I hadn’t felt like a cocktail at lunch but due to the hot muggy weather, I needed something refreshing.

Normally Four Corners isn’t open on Mondays but they were open for the Independence Day holiday. Everyone else must have the same notion to enjoy a cold brew before the fireworks started in the evening as the tasting room gradually became full.

My beer tendencies lean towards dark beers but I will try everything. Our favorite was the El Super Bee which is a saison. We got some other beer hall recs from the beer-tender but we ran out of time in Dallas to try more spots. I wouldn’t mind trying Deep Ellum Brewing Company the next time I’m in Dallas.
