Today I was on a quest to find as much citrus at the farmers market as possible. I love making homemade sweet and sour but desired something a little more complex for my summer Margaritas. I also planned to make a gigantic batch so that I could freeze the majority of the juice in small sections for use all summer long.
Those of you who make Margarita mix from scratch know that it’s a bit labor intensive. Between scrubbing the citrus clean, slicing several pounds of it, and then of course squeezing dozens of limes and lemons, you can spend thirty to forty minutes collecting juice. However, the taste is so divine that your elbow grease pays off. And then of course you have an amazing fresh mix to use with literally hundreds of cocktail recipes. Enjoy!
Four-Citrus Margarita
1.5 ounces Casamigos Blanco tequila
¾ ounce Hiram Walker triple sec
3-4 ounces homemade four-citrus mix
salt for the rim (optional)
Directions
For the four-citrus Margarita mix, wash, halve, and squeeze the limes, oranges, lemons, and grapefruit (and any other citrus you find!). Once you’ve collected the juice, combine it with an equal amount of water and sugar. For example, one cup of juice should be combined with one cup of water and one cup of sugar. If it’s too sweet or two sour, lower or raise the sugar content.
Next, fill a martini shaker with ice. Combine the Casamigos Blanco tequila, Hiram Walker triple sec, and homemade four-citrus mix. Shake for several seconds to mix and chill, then strain into a glass filled with ice and rimmed with salt.
