I've never really liked Valentines Day, I'm more of a Halloween type guy. However sometimes you just gotta go out and make things happen. Pele's potion is my thoughts on romance distilled into a drink. It's a wild ride that leaves you with a bittersweet taste in your mouth. Still you and your sweetie should enjoy this exotic elixir's spice.

Pele's Potion
1 oz Cruzan Blackstrap
1/2 oz Cruzan 151
1/2 oz Cardamaro
1/2 oz Falernum
1 oz Fresh Blood Orange Juice
1/4 oz Lime Juice
1-2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters

Shake together and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a thin slice of blood orange and possibly a sprig of fresh mint.


Rich notes of cardamom, vanilla, molasses, and ginger on the nose with light citrus hints to back it up. The rusty red color of this drink is very enticing. Like love it's bitter sweet with big notes of spice and subtle smoke. It has a sweet and sour finish that leaves one feeling rather pleased.


So whether your overpaying for dinner or drinking by yourself just be thankful valentines day is in the shortest month. Pele's potion will be here for all your love related ills.
