We are in the thick of football season, my friends. With that comes blood, sweat, tears, and tailgating. Whether you’re planning a parking lot BBQ in the stadium or an at-home viewing fest, you need to get your cocktail repertoire in order. Now I could sit here and list off a litany of perfectly acceptable, but rather unoriginal football booze ideas – craft beer, margarita mixers, vodka shooters. That’s not what I’m going to do here. I decided it is time to address the unspoken (and rather embarrassing) truth about football in America. We’re all losers at some point and you're going to need as stiff drink. A Sriracha Bloody Mary, to be exact.

Only one team wins in the end, thus there are an awful lot of losers at football parties. You know what I am talking about, your team just isn’t on point this year or you accidentally washed your lucky socks and subsequently your team lost the big game. Well, this drink is for you. It's got vodka. It's got tomato and lemon. It's got Sriracha. Top it with buffalo wing and rosemary skewers and you'll be unstoppable. Yeah I’m looking at you, smug wearer of the winning team’s jersey. What?! I’ve got my drink in one hand, my heavy heart in the other, and the hope of a better season next year. Let’s do this…

SRIRACHA BLOODY MARY

Yields 1

For the heartbroken football fan that won’t let the fire die!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce
  • 2 ounces of vodka (3 if it’s been a particularly bad season)
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Tomato juice
  • Garnish: Spicy buffalo wing skewers

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add the Sriracha sauce, vodka, lemon juice, and salt to a cocktail shaker. Shake thoroughly.
  2. Pour in a Collins glass filled with ice.
  3. Top with tomato juice and stir.
  4. Garnish with spicy buffalo wing, rosemary, and roasted tomato skewers. Enjoy!

There you have it, my unorthodox recipe for the real heroes of the football seasons. Cheers to the losers!
