There's a common comment that comes up when people see recipes of cocktail creations. One that I've said to myself as well. Yes, there are the 'oohs' and 'ahhs' from pretty pictures, intrigue of new things, and the curiosity to try it. But more often than not, we end up with, "Well, I probably won't ever make that because I don't own the stuff to make it." Because even if a cocktail strikes you, chances are you're not going to go out to buy one bottle just to make that one thang. Yes. We want to get the most out of a purchase. Yes. The more cocktails the better. Yes.

After chatting with my drinking buddies, they pitched an idea to me to show more versatility from a liquor or liqueur. And give people some insight of about the different ways flavors can mix and creations can be born.

So.

Let's dive into this.

The latest edition to Bar De Bex is St. George's Green Chile Vodka. So I took it as the opportunity to start here. I will admit, this can be seen as slightly cheating, with vodka as a neutral spirit, it's generally one of the easiest ones to mix with. Yeah, yeah, okay. But, "This one goes to 11." St. George's Green Chile Vodka's got an extra kick of some smooth spiciness to turn it up a knock. It's a unique take on a vodka, and not one we see very often. Most flavored vodkas I see are overly fruity and remind me of my college drinking days. (Aka, death.) This one I really enjoy, and it's an inspiring one for exploring creativity and a good substitute for some classics to give them a twist.

So.

That said! Here's 1 or 3 cocktails featuring such a spirit!

Tink.

Last week I asked people to send me inspiration for my fiery vodka. Lia, my brilliant and talented friend, tossed some fairy dust my way. Tinkerbell. She's spicy. Oh, and sassy. And she's beautiful, but also a little firecracker. Um. Yeah. That sounds about right. Challenge accepted. (All it takes it faith and trust.) So here's, "Tink" my ode to Tinkerbell. Though not necessarily my favorite Disney character, she's one with spunk. And I can get behind spunk in a cocktail. A mix of green chile vodka, green apple, and wild mountain sage, to get your feet off the ground. If you're looking for trouble, you found it. Second star to the right.

Let's concoct:

  • 2 oz. St. George's Green Chile Vodka.
  • 2 Slices Green Apple
  • 1/4 oz Agave
  • 2 Dashes Wild Mountain Sage Bitters

*Muddle apple and agave. Add remaining ingredients. Shake with ice and fine strain into a mini cocktail glass. Garnish with a star cutout of green apple core.

{ Stay tuned for 2 other cocktails with this spirit! }
