The Savoy Project is an online chronicle of Cocktails, 365 editor Mark A. Vierthaler’s quest to make every single cocktail in The Savoy Cocktail Book. Each recipe contains the original recipe as it appeared in the book, as well as which brand Mark used in parenthesis next to the ingredient.

The Alexander Cocktail No. 2 – more famously known as the Brandy Alexander – has a well-deserved space in the pantheon of after-dinner dessert cocktails.

Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Mark’s Notes:

There’s a good reason that the Alexander Cocktail No. 2 has gone down as one of the most popular dessert cocktails all these decades later.

The heaviness of the cream and the creme de cacao expertly bolster the heavier notes from the brandy for a nice, heavy, yet still balanced sweet cocktail. This cocktail is actually very solid when prepared according to the original directions. If you aren’t as big of a fan of chocolate, you can always reduce the creme de cacao to give the drink a more wine-like character.
