Two readers love this post.
Amaro Nonino
Since we had previously posted about Sazerac, the official cocktail of New Orleans and therefore a popular Mardi Gras drink, we decided to celebrate Fat Tuesday by being fat - stuffing our faces with pizza, and then washing it down with my favorite digestif.
Amaro Nonino is an Italian digestif made by the Nonino company in Fruili, Italy. A digestif is an alcoholic beverage that is served after a meal, in theory to aid digestion. Amaro is just an Italian word for “bitter” and references these after-dinner drinks.
Amaro Nonino is made from grappa infused with many herbs and roots. It is then casked for 5 years. While the Nonino company has been in business since 1897, they have only been making Amaro Nonino since 1993.
We found this digestif to be complex - rich, smooth, sweet and delicious; and did indeed help us digest our last supper. So next time you’re looking for a nightcap, enchoi Amaro Nonino.
