Bucks are long drinks made with liquor and ginger ale. In recent years, they have declined in popularity, but bucks are excellent hot-weather drinks. Like a collins, a buck may be made with a variety of liquors. Originally, only gin was used, but this recipe may be followed when making any buck. Simply substitute the liquor of your choice.

This recipe works with base ingredients instead of ginger ale. Alternative simpler recipe is to combine gin with ginger beer or ale and lime juice in ratios similar to a Moscow Mule (only with gin.)

Ingredients:

  • Gin
  • Lime Juice
  • Lemon Juice
  • Ginger Syrup
  • Soda Water
  • candied ginger

Preparation:

Ginger syrup is created similar to simple syrup, but add thin sliced ginger root when heating the syrup. Preserve leftover ginger slices and store in granulated sugar to create candied ginger for garnish.

Combine gin, lime juice, lemon juice, ginger juice and ginger syrup into shaker. Dry shake, then add ice and shake with ice.

Strain over glass with quality ice. Top with soda water. Add candied ginger as garnish.
