Sometimes, you can't help but love them.

Ba

Beautiful Babbling Idiot.

All righty.

Fall is here now.

So let’s do this thang.

Let's get a little boozy.

So, I was thinking about my contribution in Tales of a Cocktail's article "What Are We Drinking This Fall?" I said in response to one of the questions, that 'a time of reflection' was what was inspiring me this fall. Well, I guess with this cocktail called "Beautiful Babbling Idiot" you can piece together somethings there. Maybe some of that title is wishful and some of it is unfortunately true. But you know, reflection might not always be that pretty, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth your time to revisit. And we can't change or shake embarrassment with the hope they'll go away. So what does this have to do with cocktails? Possibly everything. But we don't have time for everything. So I'll just give a little something else for the road.

You know those times when you're at a brunch with your friends and as the mimosas start to flow, you're like, "I feel like I'm just drinking orange juice" and then before you know it, you find yourself trying to ask the waiter deeper questions than one probably would about their love life? (Just play along if this is far from you) I don't know if that necessarily makes this drink more appealing--the point is though, sometimes when drinks are fruity and delicious, we forget about the booze it contains. #dangerwillrobinson. It can be a slippery slop that usually ends with a "get as many mimosas as you can before bottomless ends" before realizing you've already had a couple pitchers worth. Truth be told, why I made a very boozy drink that's strongly fruit forward, was almost to discipline myself. Thinking about the times I've had one too many because of not being conscious of what I was consuming, why not have one that makes me so because I'm the one creating it? Sure. (Again, play a long) So. That all said in a little bit of an nonsensible rant, I present, yet again, "Beautiful Babbling Idiot." A cocktail full of booze and booze and love. Made with sweet fall sensations of red wine, blackberry, orange, all spice and apricot--you're in for a delightful afternoon. Just...you know, consume with caution before the title becomes you.

Let's concoct:

  • 2 oz Dry Red Wine
  • 1 oz Blackberry Brandy
  • 0.25 oz All Spice Dram
  • 0.5 oz Orange Liqueur
  • 0.5 oz Luxardo Apricot Liqueur

*Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a double-rocks glass with fresh cracked ice. Garnish with long orange peel rose..
