The temperature is brutal, the days are long and you need a place to relax. You need an ice cold drink inspired by the island-life. Last night marked the beginning of summer with the opening of Honi Honi, The Oakland’s Tiki Bar.

This bar is the perfect hangout for a hot Summer afternoon (or night). The menu (while not as dense as The Oakland) is refreshing tropical cocktails that pack a punch. Sometimes they actual are punch…get it.

This year’s opening was a packed event. There were commemorative glassware, hollowed out melons with booze and a giant pig roast.

The wife and I showed up toward the end of the night but just in time to enjoy a few drinks. We sampled the Daiquiri, the Honi Honi, Zombie and a hidden Saturn Snow cone.

Every drink we tried was fruity, a bit sweet and super delicious. The best (IMHO) was the Zombie. It was strong, luscious  and spicy. So delicious!

While Honi Honi isn’t open every night, I encourage you to follow them on Facebook and see when they are open. It is an ideal location for a relaxed and fun evening. There isn’t a daunting list of cocktails but instead a curated list of delicious selections for the night. Find yourself a lucky lady or guy and visit the bar for a fabulous night.
