One of my favorite winter cocktails is the Blood Orange Martini. So, this year I thought I would make another type of blood orange cocktail using my new bottle of ginger liqueur(also used in the Meyer Lemon Ginger Margarita). The result is this amazingly delicious and oh so pretty Blood Orange Ginger Cocktail.

Blood oranges are in season during the winter months and I always stock up when I find them in my local Whole Foods. They are full of Vitamin C and the red pigment in the fruit is actually an antioxidant. Sounds like the perfect cocktail ingredient to me.

The fresh blood orange juice give the drink a beautiful pink color along with a combination of sweet and tart flavors. The ginger liqueur gives the drink a bit ofspiciness. Add some Ketel One vodka and you are good to go.

Use a slice of blood orange and a piece or two of candied ginger for garnish to bump up the visual appeal of the drink. Plus you can snack on them when your glass is empty and you’re waiting for your refill. Because you will want a refill of this cocktail.

Ingredients
  • 1 fresh squeezed blood orange
  • 1½ ounces Ketel One Vodka
  • ¾ ounce Ginger Liqueur
  • Slice of blood orange and 1-2 pieces of candied ginger for garnish

Preparation
  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.
  3. Garnish with slice of blood orange and the candied ginger (on a skewer)
