Blood Orange Whiskey Sour Cocktail Recipe

We love whiskey as much as you do—but every once in a while, a straight shot or a simple whiskey on the rocks just doesn’t cut it. Sure, you could opt for the traditional whiskey and coke over mounds of ice. You could tap into your inner child and whip up a batch of whiskey and soda slushies. You could mix up a classic Old Fashioned or add in some vermouth and make a Manhattan…but if you’re in the mood to try something new, we’ve got a refreshing orange-infused whiskey cocktail that you need to try now. But considered yourself warned…these are so good you’re going to want to have more than a few.

If you’re in the mood for some citrus flavor with a bit of an edge, try our Blood Orange Whiskey Sour. With Jameson, blood orange juice, lemon juice, and maple syrup, this is an easy cocktail to mix up (and it’s really fun to make if you love using a shaker). Whip up a batch, pour yourself a glass, pour one for a friend, and enjoy…

Blood Orange Whiskey Sour Cocktail:

Step 1 : Add the whiskey

Step 2: Add the freshly squeezed orange juice.

Step 3 : Squeeze half an ounce of lemon juice

Step 4: Pour in some maple syrup

Step 5: Add 1 egg white

Step 6: Shake for 30 seconds

Step 7: Add ice and SHAKE!

Step 8: Pour into your glass

Step 9: Garnish with blood orange slices.

The Specifics:

  • 2 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • 1 oz Blood Orange Juice
  • 0.5 oz Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 oz Maple Syrup
  • 1 Egg White

Bar Tips: If you’re making a large batch of cocktails and it is impractical to shake or stir a drink with ice, then add water to your mix of alcohol and juices. A good guideline is to total up the volume of liquid in the cocktail, and add a ¼ of that total of water to the drink mix. This will add the proper level of dilution that’s achieved by shaking or stirring a drink. Remember, water is always a cocktail ingredient.
