Often called "Burns Night," January 25th is an important night in Scotland and around the world as It was the birthday of Robert "Rabbie" Burns, a Scottish Poet and lyricist to whom "Auld Lang Syne" is credited. It is to Robert Burns that many around the world tonight will be raising their glass as they recite his verses and share a traditional supper of haggis. At the close of the meal, toasts are given and "Auld Lang Syne" is sung. So let us join the revelry and stir up a Bobby Burns Cocktail that we too may remember that we have forgotten more than a few old acquaintances.

The Bobby Burns Cocktail is a simple riff on the Rob Roy. Scotch, sweet vermouth and Angostura bitters are helped along with the addition of a touch of Benedictine which adds a bit of an herbal aroma alongside some additional sweetness.

  • 2 ounces Blended Scotch (Johnnie Walker Black will do)
  • .75 ounces Sweet Vermouth (Carapano Antica Formula if you've got it)
  • .25 ounces Benedictine
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice and stir to chill and dilute. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with and orange twist. Cheers, Mr. Burns.
