Boozing In Bushwick

The cocktails are coming, the cocktails are coming! There’s no shortage of cocktail dens in Williamsburg and these crafty concoctions are finding their way to other neighborhoods. New restaurants and bars are bringing a whole new craft to Bushwick’s art scene. Here are four places to booze well in Bushwick:

LOT45: Lot45 which opened it’s industrial doors in August, offers locals and visitors a true taste of Bushwick. The decor can be accredited to reclaimed, refurbished and reupholstered objects, while the walls lend themselves to a rotating list of local artists. In conjunction with the rest of the venue, the cocktail menu, created by Rael Petit, renowned mixologist and part owner of Mulberry Project, is also quite crafty. Consuming spray paint is typically toxic so embrace Petit’s Street Canvas Cocktail, topped with a 'spray paint' made from bitters.

FORREST POINT:Whimsicality comes to mind upon arrival at the elephant mural-clad Forrest Point, but that’s not the only thing this new locale brings to the neighborhood. Dustin Olson of Ward III has created a menu that also pays homage to Bushwick. Honor the neighborhood’s Dutch history with the flavorful Bols Genever-based Bushwick cocktail. The Milk Punches also involve careful craftsmanship as Olson spends three days prepping and perfecting before them before serving.

MONTANA'S TRAIL HOUSE: If you’re itching for an escape from the busy NYC streets, then maybe you’re yearning for a little country, some outdoor space, maybe some taxidermy… you don’t have to go all the way to Montana to find it, just make your way into the rustic Montana’s Trail House, housed right here in Brooklyn. For a taste of the season order the Night Tripper made with tequila, yellow chartreuse, cinnamon-vanilla cranberry grenadine , lime juice and the house-made charred cedar and sage bitters. At Montana’s you can also drink good while doing good with the Cure Light Wounds cocktail made with rye whiskey, house smoked maple syrup, Fernet Branca and topped with ginger beer. This cocktail is participating in the Fernet Branca/Louis Salgar Foundation event in which $1 from every Cure Light Wounds sold goes to the scholarship that promotes young creative minds. Louis Salgar, the Miami-based musician and bartender who was killed was close to several staff members and his sister set up the foundation in his memory.

THE ROOKERY: Whether you want a great classic or an imaginative modern cocktail, The Rookery has you covered. Serving British-inspired pub fare in an industrial setting. The Randy Lady celebrates Brooklyn as it’s named after Winston Churchill's mother, who was born there. Both Lady Randy (Churchill’s mom) and her son famously loved a good drink. Made with Brooklyn's own Widow Jane Rye, Geijer Glögg, and a touch of cinnamon, the Randy Lady is a spicy and smooth take on the Manhattan.
