Botanist Cocktail

Sometimes, I am a little slow to catch on. But after three different people, from three very different areas of my life all suggested I try St. George’s gin – well, I figured the universe was trying to tell me something. So I went out and found a nice little sampler pack containing 3 of St. George’s gins – Terrior, Botanivore and Dry Rye.
This of course meant that a cocktail/cocktails would be made. I know, I know, life is rough – but sacrifices must be made in the name of research, right?
So I decided to start off with the St. George’s Botanivore. Made in Alameda, California, St. George’s Botanivore has 19 different botanicals in it including angelica root, bay laurel, caraway, cardamon, dill, fennel and ginger. Looking over the list,I was having a hard time wrapping my head around it – star anise, ginger??? But it totally works – this gin is herbacious with both citrus and floral notes and would work beautifully in any number of cocktails. Speaking of which, whenever I try a new spirit I always start with the company’s website for cocktail ideas and in perusing the St. George’s website I came across The Botanist – which is an ideal cocktail for a warm summer evening and a perfect way to try out Botanivore gin.
The Botanist is a riff on the classic Southside cocktail with the addition of St. Germaine and cucumber to highlight the botanicals in the Botanivore. As refreshing as a Southside The Botanist is wonderfully quaffable cocktail and a welcome change to my summer cocktail rotation and the one I’ll be sipping on the patio… toasting the universe.
