Bottoms Up | Grapefruit Margarita

When I found out that February 22 is National Margarita Day, I got super excited. It’s been awhile since I created a cocktail with tequila and I’ve had a few margarita ideas on the back burner for some time now. Citrus tastes amazing with tequila and since its grapefruit season, I thought I’d swap out the traditional lime juice for grapefruit juice. If you like grapefruit then you’ll definitely appreciate the flavor. The fact that it’s the prettiest shade of pink just puts this drink over the top for me. Time to celebrate National Margarita Day!
Bottoms Up | Grapefruit Margarita

6 ounces freshly squeezed Ruby Red Grapefruit juice (approximately 1-2 grapefruit)
2 ounce Simple Syrup
1/2 ounce Orange Liqueur
Zest of 1/2 Ruby Red Grapefruit
1 tablespoon Salt
2 tablespoons Sugar
1 small wedge of Ruby Red Grapefruit
2 Grapefruit slices
* You’ll need 2-3 grapefruits for this recipe.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add tequila, grapefruit juice, Simple Syrup and orange liqueur.
Stir until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds.
Combine the grapefruit zest, sugar and salt on a plate.
Take the grapefruit wedge and run it along the edge of the glasses.
Place the edge of the glass into the grapefruit zest mixture so that they are fully coated.
Strain the margarita while pouring evenly into the glasses.
