It’s amazing how quickly the transition to Fall hits. I’m not just talking about the change in weather but also people’s attitudes. We only get a few months of sun in Portland and it’s amazing, but every year around September/October everyone starts getting super excited about pulling out their beanies and flannels and getting “cozy.”

I love summer weather (and summer drinks!) but even I’m starting to get in the Fall-mood. So here’s my first October drink recipe for you to sip by the fireplace.

When I was work-shopping this drink I first made it with bourbon but I found that I actually prefer it with a quality aged rum.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz aged rum
  • 1/2 smoke tea liqueur
  • 3/4 oz apple brandy
  • 1/2 tsp Demerara syrup
  • 2 dashes orange bitters

How to make the Bull of the Woods cocktails:

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and stir with ice. Strain into a chilled coupe. Flame an orange peel and add to drink.
