As a lover of cocktails, I rarely ever think about the calories that I am consuming when I drink. Don't get me wrong, I definitely watch what eat throughout the rest of the day but that's often so I can enjoy my drinks guilt-free. However, not everyone feels that way. This is particularly true on New York City's tony Upper East Side. Luckily, Le Bilboquet, the popular French restaurant located on East 60th Street, has created a craft cocktail program that is both calorie-conscious and creative.

The bar menu, which consists of nine cocktails, was spearheaded by the restaurant's General Manager, Dobromira "Dobi" Trendafilora. "We have a lot of wine drinkers but we weren't serving cocktails [at first]," says Trendafilora. "We created the menu with our clientele in mind. They are all very conscious of calories and they want them to be light and refreshing."

I had the pleasure of trying to the cocktails for myself. And while my favorite was still the boozy The Golden Rule (seen above), which consists of Bulleit Bourbon, Aperol and Dolin Dry Vermouth, these drinks now make me think twice about calories when I order.

Don't tell Jacques! - Their Gin-forward cocktail is not as sweet as it might sound. The added touch of cucumber juice makes it extra refreshing. They also use cucumber juice in their equally delicious Paris, Texas.

  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • .75 oz Lime Juice
  • .75 oz St Germain
  • .25 oz Simple syrup
  • .25 Cucumber Juice
  • 4-6 Basil Leaves (torn apart)
  • 2 grinds of cubeb pepper
  • Garnished with a basil leaf with 3 cubeb peppers

Tete-a-Tete - The sweetest treat on the menu, it reminded of a Cosmopolitan. Not my usually drink of choice but I am sure they serve quite a few.

  • 2 oz Pineapple infused vodka
  • .75 Lime Juice
  • .75 oz Strawberry Syrup
  • 4 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • Garnished with a slice of fresh strawberry
