Carried Away.

You know when you're just having a nothing day with your friends?

Not a nothing day, in a negative way.

Just, you know, there's no agenda. There's nothing that needs to be done. No where you're expected to be. You're just there to with each other. Hang out. Bitch about work. Talk more than necessary about your love life. Complain about that commute that you said wasn't going to be that bad when you started. Express your excitement about a new bar near by, even though you're too lazy to go. Order in food. Reminisce. Listen to music. Then there's that moment when everything falls into that content silence. You're all just sitting around with a drink in hand. All bobbin' your heads slightly right, slightly left. Maybe your shoulders are catching on to the beat of the tune that's playing. And everyone feels it too. Thinking about what needs to be thought about in an open and welcoming area. Ah, man. I love that shit. That shit is some good stuff. You don't need anything else. You don't need reassurance. You're just in a happy place, with people who get you, and a comfort that doesn't need to be vocalized.

So I guess what this cocktail is, or least what I've envisioned myself holding in my hand in this scenario, is this one right here, "Carried Away." A light and reviving cocktail of tequila, ginger, blueberry and lime. With a nice balance of bitter and sweet, this drink gives you that lil' smirk of gratification. I hope that when you have this in hand, you close your eyes when that one song is playing, and just take the moment you're in. Just take it all.

Let's concoct:

  • 2 Tequila
  • 1/2 Domaine De Canton
  • 1/2 Lime
  • 8 Blueberries
  • Ginger Beer (Fever Tree, or whatever)

*Muddle blueberries and lime (or add lime juice after, if you have it handy). Add tequila and Canton and shake with ice. Fill glass with crushed ice. Pour over ice and top with more crushed ice to fill glass. Top with a splash of ginger beer. Garnish with a blueberry and lime on a pick.
