November Cocktail Club proved to be a great one! We were all feeling the post-election blues, and we really just needed an afternoon in our pajamas, recovering from the devastation of the recent election, eating a ton of great comfort food — and of course, the cocktail had to be on point! For our post-election recovery themed Cocktail Club, the only cocktail that seemed fitting was the Corpse Reviver #2 — and it this classic really helped to get us out of our slump, at least for an afternoon.
Our lovely hostesses this month, Candice and Jenn, did a great job of creating this classic cocktail on a grand scale, in order to serve a room full of brilliant, politically savvy women. And, we might have needed 2 or 3, this time around. The Corpse Reviver #2 is a beautiful cocktail, that is easy to drink while still having some complex flavors. And as it turns out, is a pretty easy cocktail to batch ahead of time for a large group! The #2 of the Corpse Reviver cocktails is also known to be one of the tastiest of Corpse Reviver group (the group of Corpse Reviver cocktails are created as “hair of the dog” cocktails; cocktails that help with a hangover — or a post-election hangover in this case!).
Classic Corpse Reviver #2
1 oz. gin
1 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. Lillet Blanc
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 dash absinthe (or an absinthe rinse)
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker,
strain into a chilled coupe, and garnish with a lemon twist.
Lillet Blanc is one of my favorite ingredients for a cocktail – if you haven’t tried it, pick up a bottle next time you get the chance. It is a super citrusy, light, easy to drink aromatized wine that can add subtle balance to a cocktail, or it is also really great to drink in the summer with a bit of champagne/prosecco or sparkling water — spritz style.
I also really love an absinthe rinse in a citrus cocktail because it adds a bit of heavy complexity and more of an herbal flavor profile. Those are two of the main reasons that I love the Corpse Reviver #2.
A big shout out to Jenn and Candice for knowing exactly what this group of ladies needed! We had such a great time, with a great classic cocktail — and pretty much were ALMOST able to drink & eat our cares away for one, wonderful afternoon!
So, cheers, to all of you NASTY WOMEN out there!!
Fight on, and fight hard.
CHEERS! XO
