This month’s cocktail club event was especially exciting for me. First, because I got to HOST! I haven’t hosted since we very first began last year, and our group has grown by leaps and bounds since then. It was exciting to have such a large event. Second, because I got to feature one of my favorite local products, a new flavor of bitters from Bitters Lab. And third, I created a cocktail that cocktail club members seemed to love. AND LAST, MAJOR GIVEAWAYS! Bitters Lab was all over it and made many happy girls with their amazing giveaways full of tank tops, trucker hats, and their famous Charred Cedar + Current bitters. So, fun stuff on all fronts.

Bitters Lab

September’s cocktail, which I named The Postscript, was inspired by APRICOTS! Bitters Lab is about to launch some wonderful new flavors, and I was lucky enough to be able to incorporate their brand new Apricot Vanilla flavor. I wanted to create something perfect for fall, but that still had that refreshing last taste of summer. With Ransom Old Tom Gin as the base, Bitter Milk Tom Collins with Elderflower and Hops, and Bitters Lab all in the mix — the cocktail pretty much just made itself into a bit of wonderful.

I don’t think you need much introduction — because here I am, every day, talking to you about cocktails and food. I will say, in the past year I have learned so much and I think that really came through in this fun cocktail — I was pretty proud of it.

September Cocktail: The Postscript, featuring Bitters Lab

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. Ransom Old Tom Gin
  • 1 1/2 oz. Bitter Milk Tom Collins with Elderflower and Hops (you can pick this up at Caputo’s!)
  • 1 oz Brandy
  • 2 dashes Bitters Lab Apricot Vanilla Bitters
  • Splash Lemon Soda
  • Garnish: dried apricot and thyme

How to:

Incorporate all ingredients into your shaker, with the exception of the soda water, dried apricot, and thyme. Shake, shake, shake Senora. Pour into coupe or Helsinki martini glass over ice. Add a splash of lemon soda water. Garnish with dried apricot (cut a slit and put on the rim like a lemon or lime wedge) and a sprig of fresh thyme.

Enjoy!

The Postscript was really a hit. It is super light, but definitely incorporates hearty fall flavor. The Bitters Lab Apricot Vanilla Bitters really ties together all of the flavors. Bitters are really amazing at pulling together all the complex components of a cocktail and giving you a full-balanced flavor profile…and the Apricot Vanilla bitters do this really well. These bitters also aren’t too heavy, so you can use quite a bit of them if you want to add even more apricot flavor.

Bitters Lab will be releasing this amazing new flavor pretty soon (along with another exciting new flavor!) and will be having a launch party to go with it…with another cocktail created by Heartbeat Nosh. Stay tuned for more on that front.

Big shout out to my new friend, Andrea! Andrea and her Husband Jesse are the owners of Bitters Lab and have done an amazing job making sure their bitters are nearly perfect. They are a small shop that takes their craft very seriously and they are producing a product that really stands out. I was so happy to work with them and am really excited about where I see Bitters Lab headed in the near future.

In the meantime, make sure to find Bitters Lab at the Downtown Farmer’s Market throughout October and purchase some of their current flavors! You can also find them at our favorite cocktail shop and sponsor, BOOZETIQUE!
