Can the newest addition to neuro's line of "drinks with a purpose,", neuro DAILY, actually cure a hangover before it slams into your head by simply mixing some into your cocktail? Well, maybe not entirely, but it couldn't hurt.

That's because neuro DAILY, their tangerine-citrus flavored drink, is designed to protect your immune system—packed with a blend of vitamin D and antioxidant vitamins A, C, E, selenium and zinc. And many of those vitamins are lost, along with a considerable amount of fluid, when you drink. The resulting deficiency can lead to the set of symptoms we collectively call a "hangover."

I asked neuro’s nutritional scientist, Chris Noonan, about the possibility of a "hangover preventing cocktail" and he told me:

"Hangovers are largely a function of dehydration. The body must bind ethanol (alcohol) to water in order to remove from the blood stream. It does this by drawing water molecules from cells (including neurons in the brain). Too much water pulled from cells and inflammation sets in, causing the associative hangover feeling (along with nausea). Frequent water consumption throughout the drinking span it the best way to combat a hangover. In the process of drinking, water soluble vitamins are depleted from the body. This includes vitamin C. Zinc and Selenium are also sacrificed. So what we understand is there's a temporary mineral insufficiency in the body after alcohol consumption."

When I asked if this meant using a vitamin-rich drink like neuro DAILY as mixer in a cocktail could actually help prevent a hangover, Noonan told me he would need to pull some research together to determine if taking those vitamins during drinking would really help. He also added "It's possible vitamin D could serve a valuable role in hangover prevention, but probably not in a single dose - more likely having sufficient vitamin D status can mitigate some negative effects."

At least he's honest. So maybe mixing it into your cocktails won't actually prevent a hangover, but drinking it between cocktails could be a good bet for helping to lessen the effects… depending on how much you're drinking. As for me, I'm not taking any chances, so I'll be drinking one of the neuro DAILY cocktails below—just to be on the safe side.
