Drinking In Providence

Three readers love this post.
I recently visited my best friend/partner in crime Lynsey, who's been living in Providence, Rhode Island for about six months. To an extent, it's the quintessential college town: college memorabilia abound, adorable restaurants peppering the streets, quiet interspersed with Friday night hoopla. However, PVD is also home to some very sophisticated, thriving cocktail bars.
I sipped at The Eddy & The A very, beautiful, open bars with reasonably priced fare. Not that I don't love the Manhattan weekend scene, but it was really refreshing to be able to sit comfortably without worrying about injuring or offending anyone. At both joints, I had refreshing cocktails made with Bol's Yog(h)urt Liqueur. I know the idea of a Yogurt Liqueur has been treated with some skepticism because, well, why not use actual yogurt? I don't know, I think that line of thought is a bit reductive. Perhaps because I'm someone who doesn't mind sweet or flavored spirits per se, as long as the flavors are genuine as opposed to "we're going to make this vodka sugary so you can tolerate it." Kings County, for example, made an excellent chocolate whiskey.
Also, did you know there's a fantastic Rhode Island whiskey? It's a Single Malt called Uprising from Sons of Liberty Spirits Company. Double Distilled from 100% malted barley, this SM is aged in new charred American Oak complemented with toasted French Oak. It was delicious: tasted like honey smacks. A triumph for Rhode Island.
I have a feeling I need to re-drink Providence sometime soon. Something tells me there's much more worth toasting to.
