It’s fall, whether we are ready for it or not! And what better way to ring in the season, than to enjoy a perfectly balanced cocktail with some of the best flavors that fall has to offer.

Not long ago we were asked to create a cocktail for our friends over at Whersky.com for their launch party. I wanted to do something that was easy to batch for a large group, but also something that showcased some of the beautiful flavors of fall. I chose to do a Rye cocktail since rye whiskey has some delicious spicy notes to it naturally, and Dickel Rye is one of my favorites. We had just been on an apple picking excursion and picked up some fresh-pressed cider which seemed like a natural choice. To add to the spicy notes of the rye, I added some ginger flavor with Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur. The final fall flavors came into play with the delicious Geijer Glogg, a Swedish recipe passed down for generations that incorporates the flavors of cardamom, clove and cinnamon with a hint of almond and bitter orange. To finish things off, I added a little citrus and some bitters, because my adage is “bitters make it better”.

It turned out really delicious and I was pleased with all the positive feedback from those that attended the launch. In fact, this past Monday night I was teaching one of Whersky’s new 101 classes and one of the guests came up to me after the event and told me that the drink I designed had “literally” changed her life and that she went right out to find the Barrow’s and the Glogg so that she could make it at home. I think that is just about the highest compliment someone could pay me and it filled my heart with whiskey joy.

In any case, I hope you’ll enjoy this one just as much as our Whersky brothers and sisters. Happy Fall Tippling!!!
