With around 200 open bottles, I’m torn over opening each new one. They are like children until you open/drink them, to some extent. Having not had this one til now, I have no excuse and waited too long as it is. I now have about 20 or so Four Roses bottles open. This is an OBSK at about 58 percent ABV. I’m a wimp when it comes to high rye high ABV, with spicy K yeast. That giant ball of ice in my glass is sort of my safety goggles. Thirteen years old with a little over 6,000 bottles of this one produced. I tried it ice free, as well as with over an hour of gradual dilution. The spice hides behind some leather, tobacco, cinnamon, chocolate to the nose and palate, with a nice finish, although a bit short - but make no mistake, your tongue will tingle. Over some time with the ice, it sweetens up with honey, and it’s almost as if I put a splash of ginger ale in it. I’m writing my next blog post as I revisit it, so I’m cutting this short to give it a 3.5. If the finish was a bit longer I could have gone 3.75. The stuff is still very good and deserving of the positive reviews I’ve seen. I’m lucky to have it. I’m afraid I’ll need to crack a 40th Anniversary Secretariat next.
