It’s no secret that alcohol infusions can greatly enhance your cocktail menu. Vodka is most commonly used for flavor infusions because it’s such a good flavor carrier; however, bourbon is a class act with a lot to offer.

To get started on with alcohol infusions, check out our “How to Infuse Vodka—Part One” video and “Finishing Your Vodka Infusion.” These videos not only walk you through the steps of infusion, but will give you best practices for a tasty result.

P1 - Bourbon Infusions

Orange and The Old Fashioned

Orange is a natural pairing for bourbon. Think of the classic cocktail, the Old Fashioned. Infusing your favorite bourbon with orange peel will add a sweet yet citrusy flavor. This will complement the flavor of the orange bitters, and give your cocktail a slight sweetness that’s not too overpowering.

Cinnamon Infused Bourbon for your Hard Cider

Hard cider is a great chance to experiment with cinnamon-infused bourbon. The spicy flavor of the cinnamon will contrast the sweet apple flavor. Adding the spiced bourbon to your apple cider is perfect for the fall and winter months.

Vanilla Infused Bourbon and Irish Coffee

Irish coffee is traditionally made with an Irish whiskey, but vanilla-infused bourbon would be nice twist. This drink is like a dessert in a glass. The sweet element of vanilla goes well with the creamy, desert-like nature of the cocktail.

By all means, don’t stop here. There is only one rule with infusions—flavor. Keep in mind the flavor profiles of the drink that you want to prepare. A cocktail with citrusy notes works with an orange infusion because of the complementary flavor profile. Contrast is a beautiful thing as well. Use a cinnamon infusion to add a bit of spice to something really sweet.

Don’t forget to tell us about your results in the comments. Happy infusing!
