Seven readers love this post.
The John Daly is a play on the original Arnold Palmer. Arnold Palmer can be regarded as one of the best players in golf history and was known for drinking his Ice Tea with Lemonade. Now with the tongue in cheek humor we add a bit of alcohol and boom, we got ourselves a John Daly.
John Daly is one of my favorite home made drinks. Starting out with the ice tea you can use any sort of tea you want but I tend to prefer earl grey for the flavor. You can use the ratio of 1 tea bag for every 250ml. Keep in mind that you want the tea to be strong not bitter due to you diluting it so much. Make the tea the same way you would a normal hot tea then when you have your desired strength you can take the tea bags out of the water and put the tea somewhere cool.
While your tea is cooling you can get started with your simple syrup. To make a basic simple syrup you want to use the ratio of 1 part sugar to 1 part water. 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water should be plenty for a couple of drinks. Remember to stir constantly until all the sugar has disolved into your boiling water, then take off the stove to let it cool.
As you let your ice tea and simple syrup cool down we can get started with juicing your lemons. Depending on the size of your lemons you will be wanting 10-12 lemons. After juicing your lemons you should be left with about 300ml of juice(pulp opptional). You want to add 4oz of water to your lemon juice to make it a bit more diluted. Know taking the simple syrup that has cooled down you want to add 4oz to you lemon juice to make it a bit more sweet. You want it to be plesent to taste just on its own.
Once your ice tea and simple syrup has cooled down you may want to add 2-3oz of simple syrup to your ice tea in order to sweeten it to your desired taste.
Now that you have your ice tea and lemonade made to drinking quality its time to make yourself a John Daly. Taking a pint glass you want to fill it to the top with ice; the more ice the better. You can make a john daly with lots of different types of alcohol from tequila, rum, rye, or anything else that might tickle your fancy but we are going to use vodka to make a more dangerous drink. Taking 1.5oz of vodka of your choosing you can add it to your pint glass. Taking your ice tea you want fill up your pint glass to 3/4 full and place your lemonade on top of that filling up the rest. Give it a stir and add a lemon wheel to your glass for a nice garnish.
