Want to do something special and different for dad this year? Calling all daughters AND whiskey enthusiasts: bring your dads and join me and mine for a tasting of Catoctin Creek whiskies at Roofers Union in Adams Morgan on Sunday, June 15.
If you’ve read my book, you know that one of my first experiences with hard liquor was as a child, when I used to accidentally chug my dad’s gin and tonics thinking they were waters. So we have a special bond over things like this. Nowadays, I not only teach my dad about fine spirits, but I make his drinks for him so I can’t possibly mistake them for agua!
In a relaxed and intimate environment at this event, I will explain the different whiskey types, and how to verbalize and understand their tastes and aromas in an introductory format. Catoctin Creek whiskies are locally distilled in Purcellville, Virginia by Becky Harris, a chemical engineer and female pioneer of the craft distilling movement, so you’re definitely in for a treat. The whiskies will be paired with small bites by Roofers’ Executive Chef Marjorie Meek Bradley (it may be Father’s Day, but we’ve gotta keep the girl power theme here), who was a Rising Star semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation awards and a Food & Wine Best New Chef nominee. She’s nominated for Rising Culinary Star of the Year by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington this year.
Guests will also get a surprise welcome cocktail, signed copy of Booze for Babes, and most importantly, quality time with their pops over a few new drams. And of course, sons, solo guests, and couples are also very welcome and encouraged to join us, so come on out from 1 to 3 p.m. (just enough time to get back home for your cookout)!
Besides, take a look at Dad and me below. We’re fun. How could you not want to taste whiskey with us? Get your tickets now (and if you can’t make it, please forward this on to your friends and family)!
