The team at Industry Denver wanted to reach out and say that it was a pleasure to have your support throughout the events of the second annual Denver Startup Week. Our week was very busy beginning with our hosting of Denver Startup Week – Distilling The Brand, which was a discussion panel and curated craft spirits tasting with four amazing Colorado distilleries. If you stopped in to have a drink at Denver Startup Week’s Hooch House Happy Hour at the Cartel, we stocked the bar with tasty cocktails that were hopefully well enjoyed! Having wrapped up the week at the Playing For Change concert on Saturday, we also made sure that the bar was filled with libations for Denver Startup Week’s closeout concert at The Source. crowd

Denver Startup Week – Distilling The Brand was quite the experience in itself, our guests got an inside look into how Colorado distillers interact with one another in the emerging spirits market, moderator Kyle Dill summarized that is more of a ‘right of passage’ to become a distiller today and that the growth of the distilling community supports an organic horizontal development. Co-moderated by Chuck Sullivan of Something Independent and conductor of the ‘serious celebration of American craft distilling’ DSTILL, his insight brought a composed collection of thoughts to the panel to emphasize that while distilling is often thought of as an art, it is in fact classified as a manufacturing trade.

smiles Our guests also got to try some great spirits while interacting with our discussion panel. The tasting began with Booze Hustler Litch Politch of Breckenridge Distillery who shared Breckenridge Bourbon Whiskey – a whiskey that has grown from a small cultish following to distribution in over 40 states nationwide. Co-founder and Distiller, Justin Lee of J&L Distilling Company took us into the science of distilling and shared SNO Vodka with the audience, which is a premium and sip-able vodka with a distinct sweetness from its unique build from sugar cane molasses. Feisty Spirits sent whiskey Distiller David Monahan from Fort Collins to share what they have been cooking up in their stills. He shared Better Days Bourbon, which is a collaborative limited edition release built with local indie-rock band Fierce Bad Rabbit. Andy Causey of Downslope Distilling finished the final round of tasting with his Double Diamond Whiskey, a whiskey that touches three different barrels – one of which is an experienced wine barrel – in its aging process. Eric Elkins of WideFoc.us monitored the social atmosphere online and interacted with social media contributors through following #DISTILLINGTHEBRAND. Our audience and outside onlookers contributed over 50 unique posts during the discussion (and 150 more before and after) and helped us document the experience. Our favorite shot taken during the discussion was tweeted by @KShapiroMedia looking down at the panel from the balcony lounge. We are so happy that our guests got the opportunity to capture the panel and use full range of beauty in the TAXI community space by Zeppelin Development. Kishu kept the crowd hydrated between tastings from tap water filtered completely by their organic compostable charcoal filters and from water to spirits to water, the cycle was complete.

skyline We had such great feedback that we have started thinking about plans for a Distilling The Brand spinoff event to continue sharing the stories behind our emerging distilling community. Thank you to all who shared the experience with us both on and offline it is always a pleasure to share our culture with the community. We invite your feedback from any of our events from Denver Startup Week.
