On top of my boozy cocktail book pile is Drink Vermont. Vermont is known for their amazing fall foliage, maple syrup, and cheese, but it’s also home to some of the country’s best craft breweries. In Drink Vermont: Beer, Wine, and Spirits of the Green Mountain State by Liza Gershman offers a comprehensive and beautifully photographed guide to more than ninety Vermont breweries, distilleries, wineries, and cideries. It’s perfect to use to plan your brewery tour or find recipes for making your own unique Vermont cocktails. That’s exactly what I used it for.
I conveniently found a recipe that I had all the ingredients for. I’ve been storing away some great maple syrup from Maple Guild Grade A Maple Syrup, Belle de Brillet and a local NY based rye called McKenzie from the Fingerlakes Distillery.
Madame Maple by Andie Forman
0.5 oz Maple Guild Maple Syrup
1.0 oz Belle de Brillet Cognac
0.5 oz McKenzie Rye
ice
Combine the maple syrup, brandy, whiskey, and ice in a shaker and shake. Pour it into a glass, garnish with a piece of maple candy (optional), and serve.
If you LOVE super sugar sweet drinks. Then this is for you. Now I need to go back and plan my Vermont brewery tour. Cheers!
