Mortlach 12 years Wee Witchie Review

Three readers love this post.
I picked up this Mortlach 12 years Wee Witchie for two reasons. The first being I thought it would be a good whisky for the House Bolton Game Of Thrones Whisky. When the SCWC tasted through the whole lineup we wanted to have a bonus whisky with a custom label from Michael Ries Design. So we chose House Bolton and I chose Mortlach 12 to go in the bottle. Why? Because why not?
The second reason I picked it up was curiosity: I wanted to see what Diageo was doing with Mortlach these days besides dumping it into Johnny Walker. I’ve had some stellar Mortlach in my time, mostly ex-sherry, and I was hoping they tried to capture some of that past glory here. Details in the Scotch review below.

Mortlach 12 Years Wee Witchie Review: Overall and Score
The aroma is sweet and malty, but not very complex; Palate is a near copy and remains sweet and malty, but not very complex or overly interesting; Finish toes the line. All in all, it’s a light basic witch whisky.
Especially for an OB expression the Mortlach 12 years Wee Witchie is not terrible, I was expecting far worse, It’s just a bit weak and underwhelming. I’d like more sherry, I’d like more oomph, I’d like more of that heavy Mortlach character that, when it’s on display, hits you like a velvet sledgehammer. This hits like an inflatable reflex hammer.
SCORE: 3/5
