Two readers love this post.
DrinkWire is Liquor.com’s showcase for the best articles, recipe and reviews from the web’s top writers and bloggers. In this post, What's In My Kitchen offers three cocktails inspired by his trip to Thailand.
The following cocktail recipes with gin were inspired by a picturesque trip to Koh Samui, Thailand. My sunday brunch at Beach Republic was made to be a dream come true after trying the Singapore Sling, the Grapefruit Illusion, and the Signature Long Island. Of course if you get the chance I absolutely recommend the Koh Samui sunday brunch experience, but these tasty treats can be recreated in the luxury of your home.
The first cocktail of this gin based cocktails roundup was inspired from the Singapore Sling at the Beach Republic restaurant. In order to make the twisted version you will need to follow these instructions:
Ingredients:
- Cherry heering
- Lime and mango
- Grenadine
- Soda
How to make:
- Pour ice into a cup
- Measure Beefeater gin and add 1 shots per serving
- Add a splash of cherry heering
- Add two squeezes of lime, a splash of mango, soda, and grenadine
By replacing the syrupy-sweet taste of the passion fruit with a tangy lime and succulent mango you can have tangy and sweet. This cocktail will bring you back for more every time, and was a best-kept staff secret at the Beach Republic restaurant.
The second inspired gin and juice cocktail from my dream vacation is the Classic Long Island with a bit of pizzaz.
Ingredients:
- Smirnoff vodka
- Tequila
- Havana club
- Beefeater gin
- Grand Marnier
- Coke
- Lime
How to make:
- Fill glass with ice
- Add 1 shot of Smirnoff vodka
- Add 1 shot of your favorite tequila
- Add 1 shot of Havana club
- Add 1 shot of Beefeater gin
- Add 1 shot of Grand Marnier
- Finish with 1 lime squeezed into the drink
- Top with a splash of Coke
Substituting the Cointreau for Grand Marnier will up the flavor and the class at the table, Grand Marnier is a tastier and bolder alternative. Both of these high-end orange liqueurs will smooth over each of the other strong alcohols leaving a smooth palette behind.
The third drink that I was craving to make after the trip is the Grapefruit Illusion.
Ingredients:
- Beefeater gin
- Aperol
- Passion fruit
- Lime
How to make:
- Fill glass with ice
- Add 1 shot Beefeater gin
- Add 1 shot Aperol
- Ass a splash of passion fruit puree and a squeeze of lime
Campari is similar to Cointreau that was used in the restaurant but the alcohol content is half. This switch is a safe move for any Sunday brunches where you need to hit the office early Monday morning. Both of these bitter liquors will give a kick to any sweet drink and this can often be exactly the taste you are seeking.
These gin-based cocktails will instantly take you to the island breezes of Thailand. The Koh Samui Sunday brunch is a must-see for any adventurer seeking ocean beauty. The island lifestyle is completely different than the fast pace city alternatives, but these cocktails I bring you should make up for any island nostalgia – at least for this Sunday.
