Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29

Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29

There’s always a bar I go back over and over to when on a trip. Or at least there should be. On this New Orleans trip, I ended up at Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29 twice. Twice because the first night we tried to go, we discovered it closes at midnight. After our dinner at Cane and Table, I wanted to continue the tiki trend so we (not so quickly) grabbed an uber over there.

Named after fellow booze writer Wayne Curtis, I had to get the drink Latitude 29 honored him with. It was a great drink (very spicy daiquiri type drink) and my friend enjoyed her after-dinner “coffee” with macadamia nut liqueur and coffee liqueur.

Mister Curtis – West Indian rums, East Indian spices, lime

Bandicoot – Macadamia nut liqueur, coffee liqueur, coconut milk

As mentioned, we were back the next day. This time though I was with a different friend and I was trying to remember what my friend had (it had been a long night and day in between my visits– we had just come from Compere Lapin and Cochon).

Basically I put a lot of trust into this bar when I ordered the Rum Barrel which is simply stated on the menu as “a lot of rum, a lot of juices and spices.” It is of course all that but I think they would need another page if you listed all the ingredients. .

The Pontchartrain Pear Diver is like an iced buttered rum which was much needed with the humid weather.

Rum Barrel – rum, juice, spices

Pontchartrain Pearl Diver – Jamaican rum, passionfruit, lime, honey-butter spice mix

The Rum Barrel is quite the beautiful drink. Andrew, our bartender, asked me what was next after the Rum Barrel..

Aquadesiac

He said normally people (did he mean tiki nerds like me?) go for a communal drink. My friend wanted to try the Aquadesiac so we went for it despite the fact there were only two of us. Although some others at the bar said they’d like to join in on a bowl with us. But we didn’t want to get too carried away.

It’s a fun punch bowl and it’s a good thing our hotel was within stumbling distance. We had to get ready for our last night in New Orleans!

Aquadesiac – Barbados rum, blue curacao, lemon, almond, caraway, Benedictine
