Oldie, but Goody with a twist: The Classic Daiquiri

Yea, I know I didn’t do a post for St. Paddy’s day, but considering I was out enjoying my second one I think I get a little leeway. Anyways, I’m surprised that I haven’t posted this drink sooner, since it’s one of my favorite drinks and another one of my firsts. (wink wink) The Daiquiri is a drink that is known around the world and there are all kinds of different and grand interpretations of the drink all the way from Papa Hemingway’s preferred concoction, to the blended fruity Barbie Dreamhouse style variations. One sip of this baby back in the day (like a year ago) and I was hooked. I usually prefer aged rums in mine like Barbancourt 8 year, but since I was making it for a friend I used Shellback Silver rum because I wanted some of that nice banana flavor peeking its head out to play. In this particular one I made a special Kiwi simple syrup and it works damn good for cocktails like this. We dance in a sweet and sour embrace as it goes to my head without losing its own. Another drink perfect for the summer or whenever you’re in the mood really. Here’s how I made it at home, the classic Daiquiri folks!
- 2 oz Shellback Silver Rum
- 1 oz Kiwi syrup (simple syrup infused with kiwi)
- 1 oz lime juice (I use lemon whenever limes are required)
Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a lime slice and as always…enjoy!
