Sex and the City

For our next tasting, I mixed the sexy cosmopolitan for some sexy cosmopolites. This is a classic cocktail that dates back to the early 1900s. The original was popularized by Marilyn Monroe when she was seen drinking it in the 1950s. The

drink was then reinvented in 1985 by the South Beach bartender Cheryl Cook who wanted to make a martini for women that was sweeter and lighter. She created the cosmo that we all know today, using vodka, triple sec, lime juice, and cranberry juice. This version was popularized in the 1990s by Sex and the City and the character of Carrie Bradshaw.

I followed Cheryl Cook’s recipe for our tasting, but I also recommended trying Hangar One Mandarin vodka for a sweeter and more blended flavor. In an interesting role reversal, it was Mike and I who enjoyed the drink, while Erika and Kaitlin did not.  Like men and women, this cocktail is one that is pretty in pink.
